Kokatat Hustle vs HustleR
The comparison you never knew you needed between two great lifejackets, hopefully this video helps outline what the differences are and why you might buy one instead of the other. As always remember I didn't pay for these lifejackets but wasn't paid for this video so take that as you will. See ya soon!

NEW BOAT DAY! Gnarvana vs Nirvana: Not an update, a whole new boat
Просмотров 8 тыс.Год назад
Finally new boat day! Here i give a run down of what might be the last creek boat you ever buy, the Jackson Kayak Gnarvana. It is more fun, easier to paddle, easier to turn, easy to roll, easy to boof, easy to surf, and extremely stable which will no doubt inspire confidence in your paddling. As a reminder I am sponsored by Jackson Kayak. Whilst they did not pay me to make this video I do get m...

A good friend told me the perfect way to test any hole out!! Hey Bill that hole looks sweet 😂 😮
🤘🏻💪🏻🤘🏻
🤘🏻💪🏻🤘🏻
Sorry, i didn't see a kickflip at all. Alli saw was a back deck roll on a wave. No air at all.
Crawl, Walk, Run, Sprint! Got to get the basics dialled to get air every time
Algorithmus
Algorithmus
So a kickflip is "just" a backdeck roll off a wave..?
That’s the easiest way to do it yes. Won’t get to the biggest kick flips that way though
What about in a surfski or SOT kayak with now hip pads?
Unfortunately I haven’t spent much time in either of those types of kayaks
Thanks, now it’s time to practice
The part of the hull out of the water is not helping you. Of course, everyone knows that, but seems to have selectively forgotten that with this trendy overly rockered design.
Yeah, makes sense. I have 6 Jackson boats and this would work on all of them, thanks.
Nice video. Very easy to celebrate too early after the initial drop. I did so right into purgatory and had fun surfing my way out. The whole time I was thinking, "great, someone just busted their boat here yesterday, am I really trying to repeat it?" :)
If it makes you feel better I have had my ass beat in that hole before too
I just spent my first day in my new Dagger Rewind. It came with a 1/2" thick foam seat pad. I put it in and it felt super comfy. 30 seconds on the water and I pulled it out, the boat felt super tippy. I'm 5'8", 165 lbs. 30: inseam. I've got kind of short legs and a longer torso.
Sounds like you are gonna try a little lower and see what you like on the next run. Remember the trade off for stability is leverage so roll MAY get harder when stability improves. Not definitively though. Depends on you
Well as you said go home and try these at home i would like to say that the TV stand and aquarium did not survived my first attemp in the living room. Then I tried to do it in the bathtub but i almost drowned when I managed to be upside down in my kayak :D Jokes aside - I will try it in the pool :) I need to get down the hand and hip movement together and it seems like a good way of self rescue :) Thanks for tutorial
How to get out of a sticky hole in time, if you know what i mean
Great great PFD 's have both.
"...almost a mile from shore on either side..."? hardly! more like 8o meters from the Hull side
Do that paddle back to shore when you are gassed and flows are high and tell me it’s only 80m
Really helpful explanation! Your direction to always get in the proper setup position is more than just a good idea. It is a mental cue to relax, get your stuff together mentally, and reestablish your sense of body position. For me, just getting a good relaxed mental state is indispensable. Of course body movement and position are critical, but especially in very cold water it’s important to counteract the cold shock with a little mental chill, as it were. 😅
Obviously the forward position or center position would be best for running big stuff especially in a half slice since they are so imbalanced anyway. But what if the back position is all I can fit in my Antix 2.0? Same thing with my supernova,: all the way back
Have you tried trimming the foam?
Really good points made and nice example video clips.
I get the added reach when doing a vertical paddle stroke. It seems like so many brands are focusing on their own version of a forward offset paddle blade. I'm wondering how it does for downriver play like stern prys and reverse sweeps for tailies and rock splats. Thanks for all the insightful videos.
Great break-down, Seth - thanks!!!
Thank you! this is some high quality content. I have started to botch rolls in my playboat after years of pretty bombproof rolling, and have been struggling to figure out how to correct it, and quite frankly it’s taken a lot of the joy out of boating. Now I see that I’ve even going past 90 and letting my offside hand cross the midline. I’m headed to a pool session now and I’m excited to try these things out!
Let us know if it helps !
It is strange that I can roll with goggles on every time but its 50/50 when I don't have goggles on. So frustrating because I don't want to paddle wearing goggles. Any advice?
I would probably take iterative steps to reducing goggle use. So roll in flat, well set up without goggles until comfortable. Then roll in flat no goggles no preset up, then in whitewater set up, and then in whitewater no set up, repeat each step 10-20 times
This is pretty much the same as trim, lean forward and the boat will turn faster whereas leaning back and the boat will slower
First off great job. You didn't even get your hair wet or lose your hat. But it's kinda cheating to set up and roll right through. It's great for starting but realistically it's good to also practice awkward tips with the paddle in the worst position and no momentum. After reading a comment about a float I'm thinking about putting a pool noodle on the paddle shaft and I might just leave it on. Whoa just got an idea! Have an inflatable float that doubles as an emergency air supply attached to the middle of the paddle. An inflatable bladder with a snorkel mouthpiece maybe even the CO2 absorbers like the military rebreathers use. It would give endless roll attempts and could save lives especially if pinned. Just don't use it for waterfalls or you might have too much resistance and catch it in the face.
Thanks Jeff. Here is another video you might enjoy on the same theme ruclips.net/video/8ccNnPmdC0Q/видео.htmlsi=HNi1w3S2Je4O8BiS
Great video, excellent explanation with details that I had not seen in any other video. Thanks, great information!! I have already subscribed to your channel. Greetings from Argentina.
Gracias Usted!
The best way to get out of a stopper hole is to not get in it in the first place and that's where you use your smile and frown to determine if you want to go into a hole or not
100%!!! Nailed it! For me adding stern squirts on eddylines has helped me to increase spacial body awareness and roll confidence!
The 4th point is something that I hadn't considered and now thinking back on some of my failed attempts I suspect I've also done this. Great video!! I sure benefit from it.
La Haute Tension means High Voltage, not tension 😅 and it’s the name of the whole rapid. The wave itself is called Transformer (Transformateur)
Nice comparison. For a brand new and older paddler, which would you recommend? Thank you.
This video was really helpful for me as I'm just getting into water water kayaking. How does the Zen 3.0 compare to the Gnarvana or Dagger Code for a total new paddler? Thank you.
my greatest achievement as a kid was probably tanking through Phils hole and not flipping, I was like 11 or 12
Glad the shoulders feeling good
Thank you for this. I’ve been using the HustleR for almost a year and really like it. I didn’t know these differences, and thought it was just the rescue belt.
Glad you're back Seth. Keep sending it. I want to drop a few ideas for videos. My top desired video is a how-to video from an intermediate perspective about how to unlock the full potential of the Antix 2.0 from someone who has basically exclusively paddled river runners/creekers (Zen 2, Nirvana, and now the Gnarvana). With a particular focus on how to fully engage the stern in different ways but also how to feel more confident when things get swirly with the stern. In addition with the Antix 2.0, I like to run two hip shims but anytime I run two in the Antix 2.0 my feet fall asleep. What is the best remedy for that? I know I can run just one shim, but then I feel loose. My other idea is a compare and contrast of the Nirvana vs Gnarvana and tips and tricks to unlock the full potential of the Gnarvana. Thanks for all that you do.
Seth, glad you're back!
Wouldn’t even risk it
rRemember I am not saying never wear it just don't let it become a crutch
Can you make a video how you mounted your GoPro on the strutter because i can’t fit it on
Are you using a flat or curved mount?
Hey My kids 11 and getting into kayaking the Ottawa. I bought him a used Jackson fun 1.5. Any recommendations on what skirt will fit that boat for a skinny kid .?
try and find one with an adjustable tunnel for the waist. will help alot. maybe look at sea kayaking skirts for this feature
How well does this work in a sea kayak?
not sure to be honest!
@@SethAshworth I'll give it a try tomorrow.
Thanks for the tip on the hip pad placement. Still new to hard boats. Since I got my own kayak (instead of borrowing others), my feet and legs are falling asleep within a half hour or so. Will try moving the hip pads up a bit. And for real, have you ever had trouble mounting a GoPro to the provided mount? The screw head will always prevent the camera mount bracket from siding on all the way. It seems to be like this on all JK boats.
Yea I think there was a batch or two of boats affected by the screw thing you describe. I have certainly had a boat or two like that. I just ditch the screw and use the sticky back peel off of the mount
Groovy man.
dopeness
Thanks for the video Seth. This is where I’m at now. Got the whitewater roll, but not 100% confident in it, if I set up properly I get it, if I don’t, I can’t seem to get in position and just fail the roll, so frustrating as the rest of my kayaking is going well. Have started using these tips, will keep plugging away. Too old for freestyle lol
Why am I even watching this? I can’t roll my kayak in flat water.
It’s a long journey sometimes. Focus on hip/leg power and keeping your head down!
That was a close one for Bren... Good thing you were right there!
Seriously...what is that Bren guy doing in waters that dangerous ;-)
I had this problem and my numbness was caused from blood flow or lack there of, I got out of kayaking because of it. I really miss kayaking
Seth I am a Boater out of WV PA area I currently blew out my shoulder. The surgeons are suggesting a total reverse replacement. I tied to reach out to my paddling community with no luck. Do you know of anyone who is paddling with a complete shoulder replacement thanks
That sucks! I do not know any paddlers with a total replacement but I am sure there might be one or two out there. Sounds way more gnarly than mine. Mine was relatively low key compared to that.
